Alternatives to Common Sympathy Gifts
Most people are used to sending the typical arrangement of flowers to a person in grievance. While flowers and a card is an appropriate gift, sometimes it is best to consider a gift that is more personal. A charitable donation is a great way to show your sympathy and display that you care for a cause.
It is becoming more and more typical to have people request some sort of donation instead of flowers. Think about it. A grieving family will receive dozens of flowers, but will the flowers really make them feel a whole lot better? Sure it shows that they are in other people’s hearts, but a donation would be a much more comforting gift. For example, if a family is grieving the lost of some due to a drunk driver, donating to an organization like Mother Against Drunk Driving (MADD) may make them feel more gratitude toward the giver. Or if they had a child who died of cancer, donating money to a hospital, cancer research center, or organization would probably be better than getting a bouquet of flowers.
So consider a donation in place of flowers or in addition to flowers or a card. Donations are amazing sympathy gifts.
